Frequently asked questions
What happens if it rains?
Elements is a ‘what ever the weather’ programme. Rain provides great inspiration for play & learning such as making water runs or playing with mud. Most children don’t tend to mind the rain as long as they are dressed appropriately and have a dry, warm change of clothes & footwear. In saying that though, we usually have an indoor space to use if need be or we have become fantastic at making shelters under the tree canopy that works well too.
My child has never been to a holiday programme before, how will you look after them?
All Elements programmes have smaller group sizes with fantastic ratios of leader:children. We gather information about each child before the programme begins and they are assigned a group and leader that will support them over their time with us. Our team members are experienced with working with children, many are registered teachers and are supported with both curriculum and health & safety information. At the beginning of each day we have introductions, ice breakers and team building activities so everybody gets to know each other well. Our junior leaders in particular are great at helping children feel at ease and facilitate new friendships.
What does my child need to bring?
No matter if it is summer or winter all children must bring at least one change of clothing and footwear. Appropriate jacket, hat etc. A ‘wet bag’ with towel is also helpful. Bring lunch and drink as you would on a school day, and we tend to supply afternoon tea which children love to make. We supply sunscreen, sanitiser and bug spray but you may have your own favourite brand to supply. If bringing a pocket knife ensure this is handed into a leader. We discourage toys from home, devices or pets accompanying at drop off or collection. An information email is sent out with what to bring and any additional items a week before commencing the programme. Nightly emails also keep you updated.
My child has additional sensory or learning or behavioural needs, can they still attend?
Another query is ‘I am not quite sure what is going on yet, but they are struggling in the classroom’. Just let us know what the needs or presentation of your child is. With our great ratios we are usually able to include your child. In fact they will excel in our environment as our experiences and activities tend to be ‘open ended’ where there are multiple ways of making/doing and children can engage and complete at their own level.
